All Green Builders homes meet and exceed the criteria for ENERGY STAR certification.
These homes use less energy than a home built to the Texas residential building
code, save money on utility bills, provide a more comfortable living environment
with better indoor air quality and help protect the environment. ENERGY
STAR qualified homes are tested by an independent third party to ensure
that they meet the strict guidelines for energy efficiency set by the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency.
ENERGY STAR certification is determined by an analysis of a home's construction
plans and a series of onsite inspections throughout the construction process.
Results of these tests, along with inputs derived from the plan review,
are used to generate the HERS Index for the home. In order to be ENERGY
STAR labeled, a home must receive a HERS Index of 85 or below - and the
lower the HERS score, the better! Each one-point decrease in the HERS Index
corresponds to a 1% reduction in the home's energy consumption compared
with the reference home score of 100. So, a home that meets ENERGY STAR
requirements with a minimum HERS Index of 85 is 15% more energy-efficient
than the average new home in America. Green Builders homes average a HERS
score of 69. This means that, on average, our homes are 16% more energy-efficient
than most of our ENERGY STAR competition . . . and 31% more energy-efficient
than most new homes on the market today. Go to the "FIND A HOME"
section of our website to find our Austin,
Texas homes for sale and their individual HERS Index.
"We're all trying to do our part to create as little impact on the
environment as possible when building new homes," explains Clark Wilson,
President and CEO of Green Builders, Inc. "Our ENERGY STAR certification
is further demonstration of our commitment. Just one ENERGY STAR qualified
new home can keep 4,500 pounds of greenhouse gases out of our air each year.
With our participation in the EPA's ENERGY STAR program, we're helping consumers
live green, maintain a healthy lifestyle and save money and energy in the
process."
